No
doubt about it, Sssh.com is a classy act. The tour is beautiful
to look at and comes with its own Shakespearean quotes. This
site promises a quality, romantic yet intellectual erotic magazine,
and on the whole, it comes up with the goods.
Inside the members area the design is just as swish. More quotes,
more tasteful photography, more romantic allusions. Lots to
choose from, at least in terms of written content. Indeed, this
site offers far more than an everyday magazine could hope to
publish, and this is the main attraction and selling point of
Sssh.com.
The
articles are plentiful and cover a wide range of sexual topics.
There's the Sex 101 section which offers advice pieces on kissing,
oral sex, shaving and so on, and then there are the more exotic
articles. Kama Sutra, Sex Magick, History of Sex, Fantasies,
Fetish... you'll find a mountain of reading and information
within the archives. Some articles are linked to individual
galleries (of which I'll discuss shortly).
There's also interviews with well known sex activists like Annie
Sprinkle, news and entertainment sections, sex advice and polls...
the usual fun stuff you'd expect from a magazine. And the member
submissions, while small at present, do provide a nice interactivity
to the site.
The
erotic fiction at Sssh.com is mostly very good quality - well
written and often designed for women, which is still something
of a rarity on women's sites. There ARE exceptions of course,
although that all depends on one's taste, while the quantity
of available stories is not huge.
And speaking of not huge, we come to the main failing of Sssh.com,
at least at present. There is really not very much pictorial
content, and some of it - while high quality - is quite old.
The site offers a number of categories: men, couples, bisexual,
lesbian/curious, "know thyself" (masturbation pics)
and fetish. The couples section had only 12 galleries, the men
a few more. The photos have been sourced from the highly-awarded
Wasteland site, so they are high class pics, and their subject
matter is the kind of stuff women want to see. I enjoyed the
fantasy scenarios, the female viewpoint, and the romance evident
in the couples pics. It's just a pity there's so little of it.
Each gallery also comes with a "content warning" attached,
to allow the delicate female surfer a chance to decide whether
the pics are too hardcore to look at. I found this a little
condescending in a way, but I guess some women aren't as immune
to porn as I am, so it may be helpful.
The "Men of the Month" were very good looking, and
again the pics were very well photographed, however the sheer
numerical lack of content was a letdown.
Sssh.com has huge potential, and it deserves support because
it is offering a real honest-to-goodness women's adult
site - it's not padded out by plugins or mainstream content.
Everything in it is for the female surfer. The cheaper price
is nice too, although perhaps it reflects the quantity of pictorial
content you get. I'm sure that, given time, this will improve
and this site will be one of the best women's sites available
today.
